The couple met on Saturday December 3rd, 2022, which happened to be Dan’s 27th birthday! Safe to say he couldn’t have imagined a better birthday gift than meeting Alexa. After working up the courage to introduce himself to her, Dan and Alexa bonded through comparing their respective newly-released Spotify Wrapped playlists, which revealed Dan’s hidden affinity for Taylor Swift and Alexa’s appreciation for classic rock. They chatted the whole evening, and Dan couldn’t wait a day before reaching out and asking Alexa if she wanted to go ice skating in Bryant Park that Thursday. Later on, Alexa confessed that she always wanted to go skating at Christmastime in the big city with someone she loved, and three years later, the couple hasn’t missed commemorating the anniversary of their first date by returning to the rink at Bryant Park each year.

Dan fell quickly for Alexa’s boundless devotion to the well-being of others, her determination in the face of adversity and the joie de vivre she possesses best embodied by her never-ending appreciation of the simple things in life like love, family, friends, and homemade strawberry shortcake. Alexa grew to admire Dan’s love of family, his positive approach to taking on each day and life’s challenges, and his old soul (and accompanying “old man phrases”).
